President Ranil Wickremesinghe, currently on a state visit to Australia, met with the Sri Lankan Diaspora in Perth.
During the interaction, he updated them on the nation’s recovery efforts and outlined plans for economic modernization. The Diaspora expressed readiness to assist in sectors like climate change and tourism to boost economic development.
President Wickremesinghe’s visit is in response to an invitation to attend the 7th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) in Perth.
The conference aims to foster cooperation among 40 participating nations under the theme “Towards a Stable and Sustainable Indian Ocean.” Foreign Minister Ali Sabry is also attending, reflecting Sri Lanka’s focus on safeguarding shared ocean resources.
President Wickremesinghe’s presence underscores Sri Lanka’s commitment to regional diplomacy and addressing common challenges in the Indian Ocean region.
