President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced financial assistance from the President’s Fund for two crucial surgeries aimed at alleviating the burden on impoverished families and ensuring the welfare of children in Sri Lanka.

The President has directed funds for liver transplant surgeries for young children at the Ragama Teaching Hospital and cochlear implant surgeries at the Sri Jayawardenepura General Hospital. Each liver transplant surgery will receive Rs. 1 million from the President’s Fund, effective January 1, 2024, to ease financial strain on families.

Moreover, cochlear implant surgeries, vital for auditory development, will have their costs covered by the President’s Fund, amounting to Rs. 600,000 per surgery. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to providing essential medical care for children in need, aiming to safeguard their health and future well-being.

These measures address the significant financial barriers hindering access to vital healthcare services for young patients, ensuring that financial constraints do not impede necessary medical treatments.
