‘Yukthiya’: 625 more suspects arrested

Sri Lanka’s police and security forces have apprehended an additional 625 suspects within a span of 24 hours, concluding at 12:30 a.m. today, as part of the ongoing nationwide anti-drug operation, ‘Yukthiya’.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, 545 out of the 625 apprehended individuals are facing charges related to drug offenses, while the remaining 80 suspects are identified as wanted criminals listed in various police crime divisions.

Among the 80 arrestees are 3 individuals with outstanding warrants pertaining to narcotics-related charges, while 74 others have warrants issued against them for non-drug-related offenses.

During this operation, law enforcement seized a significant quantity of narcotics, including 160 grams of heroin, 152 grams of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), 10 kilograms and 745 grams of cannabis, and 683 narcotic pills.

The intensified efforts under the ‘Yukthiya’ initiative underscore Sri Lanka’s commitment to combatting the scourge of drug trafficking and organized crime, aiming to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
