The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has issued a call for the correct registration of mobile phone SIM cards, emphasizing the importance of verifying registrations to prevent exploitation for illegal activities.
In a statement to the media on Monday, TRCSL’s Deputy Director, Menaka Pathirana, urged individuals to ensure proper registration of their SIM cards and provided a verification method by dialing #132# on their mobile phones.
Pathirana also advised the public to contact phone companies to check if any SIM cards are registered under their names, especially those not currently in use or provided by employers.
Additionally, individuals were encouraged to disconnect any SIM cards issued under their name without their knowledge, particularly those linked to their National Identity Card numbers, to prevent potential issues related to illegal activities.
The TRCSL warned of repercussions if SIMs registered under individuals’ names are misused for illegal purposes, citing previous instances of such activities.
