MFCD launches climate change action project in Kandy District

In a concerted effort to combat deforestation and environmental degradation, MFCD partnered with the Haritha Lanka Organization and coordinated a tree-planting campaign in the settlement areas of Hantana, specifically at Deltota, located in Kandy district on the 8th of February.

‘This collaborative initiative among the residents of Kithulmulla aims to address the dual challenge of deforestation and climate change by enhancing green cover and biodiversity in the region.

Through the active participation of local residents, the project seeks to instill a sense of environmental stewardship and sustainable living practices.

The organization envisions this effort as a stepping stone toward a greener and healthier future for the residents of Hantana and surrounding areas, according to Mr. Hanan Hussain, chairman of MFCD.

In attendance at this distinguished occasion were the Kandy District NGO Co-ordinator, Mr. Sampath, Vihara adikar, Poojya Mahavila Sumnasiri Thero, Planning Director, Mr. Ranjith Herath, Administrative Grama niladari, Mr. Yatawara, Administrative Officer, A.P.K. Ekanayake, Grama Niladari, Mrs. Sanjeewani, Development Officer, Mrs . Maya Herath, Land Administrative Officer, Mr. Samantha, Disaster Relief Officer, Mr. T. P. Jalil, Environment Officer, Mr. Hasantha, Environment Officer, Mr. Hasantha, and Productivity Development Officer, Avanti Prasanjali.
The Chairman of MFCD, Mr. Hanan Hussain, Head of Finance, Mr. Ashfaq, Project Manager, Mr.Marshad Mansoor, Project Coordinator, Mr. Ashif Rauf, IT& Media office, Mr. Farik Mahir and MFCD Sri Lanka’s volunteers also graced the event with their presence, along with Mr. Dinesh Program co-ordinator of Haritha Lanka Organization
