Sri Lanka’s Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory indicating various regions of the island will experience spells of showers accompanied by thunderstorms.

In the Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in Polonnaruwa, Matale, and Nuwara-Eliya districts, several spells of showers are expected. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant as sudden downpours may occur.

Additionally, residents in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, should anticipate showers or thundershowers after 2.00 p.m. It’s recommended to plan outdoor activities accordingly and be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Fairly strong winds ranging between 30-40 kmph are forecasted, particularly in the eastern slopes of the central hills, and in Northern, North-central, North-western, Uva, and Eastern provinces, as well as in Hambantota district. Residents in these regions are urged to secure loose objects and take necessary precautions to minimize any potential damage caused by these winds.

The public is kindly reminded to stay updated on weather forecasts and take adequate precautions to minimize any damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
