The Sri Lankan Cabinet has authorized the use of English in certain courts for legal proceedings and record-keeping.

This decision comes as the government acknowledges the predominance of English in commerce, reducing translation costs and time delays.

By facilitating English use, the aim is to expedite commercial dispute resolutions and improve Sri Lanka’s Ease of Doing Business ranking.

The Minister of Justice will issue an order, aligned with constitutional provisions, to implement this decision.
