We strongly condemn the cowardly assassination – Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine

Date:

The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine strongly and unequivocally condemns the cowardly assassination of Hamas Political Wing Leader and former Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh in Teheran on July 31, 2024 said in a statement released yesterday.

It further states that While we accuse Israel of committing this heinous killing, we would like to remind the perpetrators that freedom struggles cannot be ended by eliminating leaders. A visionary leader, Mr. Haniyeh represented the dream of the millions of displaced Palestinian people. He was born in a Gaza refugee camp, with his ancestral village, Ashkelon, being illegally occupied by Israeli settlers. By assassinating the Hamas leader, Israel proves that it is not willing to end its genocide in Gaza and go for a ceasefire.

We express our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family members and the people of Palestine. His martyrdom will only help the Palestinian struggle to emerge stronger.

We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and reiterate our continuous support for their resistance against Israel’s expansionism.
