Sri Lanka marks a historic milestone in gender representation as four women officers assume leadership of key police divisions. SSP H.W.I.S. Muthumala now heads the prestigious Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the first woman in this role. SSP H.M.L.Rajini Amarasena leads the Special Investigation Unit, tackling high-profile cases. SSP R.A.D. Kumari oversees operations at the Police Field Force Headquarters, while SSP P.G.S. Gunathilake manages the Medical Services Division. These appointments underscore progress in empowering women within the nation’s law enforcement sector, setting a precedent for future inclusivity.
A total of 54 senior police officers, including four women, have been transferred with immediate effect under the approval of the National Police Commission today. Among the transfers, four Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) are also included.
