The Court of Appeal has issued an interim injunction against Alhaj Fouzul Haque, a chartered accountant and businessman, who was recently appointed as a member of the new Haj Committee.

The injunction was granted today, January 22, 2025, by Justice P. Kumar Ratnam, following allegations that Mr. Haque failed to properly submit financial reports to the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs during his tenure as a trustee of the Kollupitiya Jumma Masjid for the past 16 years.

The court order was issued on the grounds that Mr. Haque was removed from his trustee position by the Sri Lanka Waqf Board last year due to his failure to contribute to the Muslim Charitable Fund (MCF) during his tenure at the Kollupitiya Jumma Masjid.

Alhaj Fouzul Haque was appointed as a member of the Haj Committee last month by the Ministry of Buddhist Religious Affairs under the leadership of Chartered Accountant Riyaz Mihlar. However, concerns regarding his financial oversight during his previous role as trustee have now led to legal challenges.
