The Defence Adviser to the Embassy of Myanmar in Sri Lanka, Brigadier General Zaw Moe Lwin, met with Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) at the Defence Ministry in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte yesterday (28).
During the meeting, the two officials engaged in a cordial discussion on matters of mutual interest and explored avenues to further strengthen defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and Myanmar. The discussions emphasized the long-standing ties between the two nations, with a particular focus on collaboration in areas such as maritime security and defence training programs.
Brigadier General Lwin highlighted the potential for enhanced partnership in these key sectors, reinforcing the importance of strategic cooperation between the two countries. The meeting concluded with an exchange of mementos as a token of goodwill and mutual respect.
The Military Liaison Officer of the Defence Ministry was also present at the occasion.
This meeting took place against the backdrop of Myanmar’s ongoing Rohingya crisis, with an increasing number of Rohingya asylum seekers arriving in Sri Lanka.
