The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Sri Lanka hosted the “Cat Walk 2025” this morning at Galle Face Hotel, marking the International Day of the Arabian Leopard. The event, attended by high-ranking government officials, diplomats, media representatives, and Embassy staff, aimed to raise awareness about the conservation of one of the world’s most endangered big cats.
The United Nations General Assembly officially recognized February 10 as the International Day of the Arabian Leopard in June 2023, following a resolution submitted by Saudi Arabia and co-sponsored by over 30 nations. The initiative underscores the importance of wildlife preservation and biodiversity, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to protect the Arabian leopard through various conservation programs.
The event featured a symbolic walk along Galle Face Green, emphasizing the need for global cooperation to protect endangered species. The Arabian leopard, a rare and majestic predator, faces critical threats due to habitat loss and human encroachment, making such initiatives crucial for its survival.
Through this initiative, Saudi Arabia reaffirms its commitment to wildlife conservation and sustainable environmental practices, encouraging global action to safeguard the planet’s natural heritage.
