President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has extended an open invitation to Sri Lankan expatriates worldwide, urging them to contribute their expertise and talent to the nation’s development across the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
Delivering the Budget 2025 in Parliament today, President Dissanayake painted a vision of a united, clean, and prosperous Sri Lanka, calling on those with Sri Lankan roots to take part in the country’s transformation.
“Never has Sri Lanka had a chance like this to catch up with the modern world,” he declared. “To Sri Lankan expatriates, those with Sri Lankan roots—whether you were born here or learned about your heritage from your parents—know that, to us, you are all Sri Lankans.”
Acknowledging the frustrations that led many to leave, the President sought to rebuild trust. “Your country is proud of your success.
We understand why you may have lost faith in our motherland.
Know that I am grateful for every effort, even from afar, that helps our country,” he said.
In a passionate appeal, President Dissanayake urged expatriates to return and witness Sri Lanka’s progress firsthand.
“We invite you, one and all, to come back and see for yourself how much Sri Lanka has changed.”
He encouraged skilled professionals, investors, and innovators to actively engage in the nation’s rebuilding process, offering their knowledge, talent, and global perspectives.
“Join us, and work with us to accomplish a level of success that we can only achieve together,” he added.
