LG Polls: Nominations Starts, Postal Vote Applications close Today

Date:

The nomination process for Sri Lanka’s upcoming Local Government (LG) elections officially begins today, with the Election Commission set to accept nominations until noon on March 20, 2025.

Candidates vying for positions in 336 local government institutions can now submit their nominations, with the election date expected to be announced following the closure of the nomination period.

Meanwhile, today also marks the deadline for postal voting applications, which will close at midnight. The Election Commission has urged eligible voters who have not yet submitted their applications to do so in person at their respective district election offices rather than relying on postal services.

In light of the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination, which also commences today, the Commissioner General of Elections has called on candidates to ensure their nomination activities do not disrupt the examination process.
