The Swiss House of Religions, a globally active interfaith organization based in Switzerland, is considering the establishment of an interfaith center in Puttalam, Sri Lanka.
Representatives recently visited Sri Lanka and observed the strong interfaith relationships in the Puttalam District. In response, they initiated discussions with local authorities and religious leaders to explore the possibility of creating a dedicated interfaith house.
The Puttalam District Secretary HMSP Herath facilitated the meeting , followed by discussions with Swiss Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Siri Walt, and government officials, including Minister of Coexistence, Dr. Sunil Senevi. All parties expressed strong support for the initiative.
Key representatives, including Sivarushi Dharmalingam Sasikumar and Lavanya Lakshmanan from the Swiss House of Religions, participated in the meetings, along with religious leaders from the Puttalam District Interfaith Organization. On behalf of the Puttalam District Interfaith Organization, Venerable Sudassi Thero, Sundararama Gurukkal, Reverend Father Kennedy, Ash-Sheikh Abdul Mujeeb and other members of the organization participated and engaged in detailed discussions in this regard.
Operating since 2016, the Puttalam Interfaith Organization has been recognized for its efforts in fostering coexistence and reconciliation, making it a fitting location for this initiative.
