A police constable has been arrested by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on serious charges related to the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.
According to a statement from the Police Media Division, the constable is accused of obstructing investigations into the brutal killing of two police officers in Vavunatheevu, Batticaloa in November 2018. Authorities allege that the suspect, who was serving with the State Intelligence Services at the time, played a key role in misdirecting the probe.
CID investigators claim the constable’s actions helped shield the real perpetrators of the Vavunatheevu double murder, effectively allowing them to remain at large and go on to commit further crimes—including the coordinated suicide bombings on Easter Sunday that killed over 250 people.
The arrest took place yesterday (09) in the Karadiyanaru area, and further investigations are currently underway.
