Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to India today morning, abbreviating his scheduled two-day visit to Saudi Arabia in response to the deadly attack at a tourist site in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir. He was scheduled to return today night.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister convened an emergency meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) directly at the airport to assess the evolving security situation.
The high-level meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishra, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is currently visiting the United States and Peru, is also expected to return early to join the deliberations.
The tragic attack, which occurred yesterday, claimed the lives of 26 people, including foreign nationals from the United Arab Emirates and Nepal. This marks the most devastating assault in the region since the Pulwama terror attack in 2019.
