Government is sensitive to the issues faced by the Muslim community – Foreign minister to Muslim Civil Society Organizations

Date:

A discussion between leaders of Muslim civil society organizations and government representatives took place on Wednesday (30 April)  The aim of the discussion was to discuss measures to resolve the long-standing issues facing the Muslim community under the new government. Minister Vijitha Herath, Deputy Speaker Rizvi Sali and Member of Parliament Aslam participated in the discussion, along with more than 30 Muslim civil society activists.

Minister Vijitha Herath emphasized that the new government’s policy is national unity and that the government will not allow any faction to create differences between races or engage in racist activities. He also pointed out that the government is committed to strictly implementing the law regardless of race, religion or differences in matters related to national security. The Minister also pointed out that the government is sensitive to the issues faced by the Muslim community and said that it is the government’s policy to listen to the demands and voices of the community concerned when making decisions regarding any community.

The Minister stated in the presence of representatives of Muslim civil organizations that there has been no change in the actions taken by the government regarding the Palestinian people when it was in the opposition party after coming to power, and that since assuming power, it has been intervening diplomatically for the rights of the Palestinian people.

It was agreed to hold such discussions with the leaders of Muslim civil organizations in the future as well.
