The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially secured its position as host of World Expo 2030, following the final approval of its Registration Dossier by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) during a General Assembly held in Paris.
This landmark approval formalizes Riyadh’s status as the next Expo destination and signals the start of the next phase of preparations. The event, scheduled from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031, will be hosted on a sprawling 6 million square meter site, with the aim of drawing over 40 million visits and participation from more than 195 countries.
During the event in Paris, the BIE ceremonially handed over the World Expo flag to the Saudi delegation, symbolizing the transition to the implementation stage. Saudi authorities have pledged a world-class experience supported by advanced infrastructure and a bold vision rooted in the Kingdom’s broader Vision 2030 development goals.
Eng. Ibrahim Al-Sultan, Acting CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, noted that Saudi Arabia submitted and received approval for its Registration Dossier in record time, nearly twice as fast as usual, demonstrating its efficiency and global commitment. He thanked the nation’s leadership for their unwavering support, which he said was crucial in reaching this milestone.
With the official green light now in place, Saudi Arabia will begin formally inviting nations to participate through diplomatic channels, setting the stage for what is expected to be one of the most ambitious World Expos ever hosted.
As the world looks ahead to Expo 2030, Riyadh promises an immersive global experience centered on innovation, collaboration, and sustainable progress.
