Several key state-run institutions have reported robust revenue performances for the first half of 2025, surpassing their mid-year targets, according to official announcements.
The Department of Excise has collected Rs. 120.5 billion by June 30, achieving 102.6 percent of its revenue target for the first six months of the year. The department’s revenue collection has shown a steady upward trend over the years, with Rs. 170.3 billion collected in 2022, Rs. 178.6 billion in 2023, and a record Rs. 226.7 billion in 2024.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Customs has announced a major milestone, with revenue exceeding Rs. 1 trillion during the same period. Speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo on July 3, Customs spokesperson Sivali Arukgoda expressed confidence in meeting and surpassing the annual revenue target of Rs. 2.115 trillion set by the government.
“As of now, Customs revenue has already crossed the Rs. 1 trillion mark, and we still have six more months to go. We are confident that we will surpass the full-year target,” Arukgoda said.
The strong revenue performance by these institutions is expected to provide a boost to government finances amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy and meet fiscal targets.
