A series of events were held at the Regimental Centre of the Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) on last Wednesday (06) to mark the assumption of duties by Major General T.N. Majeed RSP USP ndc ISC as the new Colonel Commandant of the Corps.
Major General Majeed, who joined the Sri Lanka Army on 17 November 1991 as an Officer Cadet of Intake 09 at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy, began his service in the Military Intelligence Corps in 1995. Over his distinguished 32-year career, he has served in numerous command, staff, and instructional roles, even during intense operational periods.
He has commanded the prestigious 1st Military Intelligence Corps Regiment and held key appointments including Colonel General Staff – 23 Infantry Division, Commandant of the School of Military Intelligence (2017–2018), and Centre Commandant at the Regimental Centre MIC (2021–2022). His service record also includes roles as GSO 1 (Sy) and Colonel Intelligence at the Directorate of Military Intelligence, and Director of Psychological Operations in 2022.
Internationally, Major General Majeed served as Contingent Intelligence Officer in the UN Mission in Haiti (2010) and as First Secretary at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Paris (2014–2016). He also held the position of Coordinator, Foreign Intelligence at the Office of the Chief of National Intelligence, Ministry of Defence, in 2013–2014 and 2019–2020. He was a pioneer in establishing the Military Intelligence Training School.
In recognition of his bravery in battle, he has been awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP), and for his exemplary conduct, the Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP), among numerous other service medals.
An alumnus of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy with a BA in Defence Studies, Major General Majeed holds an MBA from London Metropolitan University, postgraduate diplomas in HRM and Personnel Management from the Indian Institute of Management and Technologies, and a postgraduate qualification in Management from KDU. He is also a graduate of the National Defence College (NDC).
He has represented Sri Lanka at several international conferences and seminars on intelligence and security, including the Asia Pacific Intelligence Officers Conference, the Advanced Seminar on Belt and Road Security Guarantee in China (2019), and the BIMSTEC Counter-Terrorism and Cyber Security programme in India. His professional development includes specialized training in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and other countries, covering intelligence, defence management, counter-terrorism, and civilian protection.
