The High Commission of Pakistan and the Pakistani community in Sri Lanka commemorated Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day today (14) with a reaffirmation of their commitment to fostering a strong, dynamic, progressive, tolerant, and democratic Islamic welfare state.
On a press release to mark this occasion, The Pakistan High commission in Sri Lanka stated, This year’s celebration holds a special significance, as it follows the successful Operation Bunyan un Marsoos by Pakistan Armed Forces in response to India’s blatant aggression and baseless allegations against Pakistan. This successful action served as a clear testament that, any future threat to our national security will be met with even stronger, fierce, and decisive response, affirming the preparedness and professionalism of our armed forces and their dedication to the defense of the homeland. Moreover, use of water as a weapon in the region will not be tolerated ever, and will be dealt with effective response on all available forums.
The ceremony, held at the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo, featured the hoisting of the national flag by the High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Major General (Retd) Faheem-Ul-Aziz HI (M). Messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read to the assembled guests.
In his address, High Commissioner Faheem-Ul-Aziz underscored the significance of the day, emphasizing the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal for a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan.
The High Commissioner also spoke on the enduring bilateral relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, highlighting their shared historical bonds, common values, and steadfast mutual support. He elaborated on the excellent political, defense, and cultural ties that characterize the relationship. Furthermore, he informed attendees of ongoing efforts to enhance economic connectivity through increased trade and bilateral investment, operating within the existing Free Trade Agreement between the two nations.
The event saw a significant turnout, including members of the Pakistani diaspora, High Commission officials and their families, local dignitaries, journalists, and friends of Pakistan.
