The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal by the Minister of Buddhism, Religious and Cultural Affairs to officially declare the pilgrimage to the famous Sabarimalai Ayyappan Kovil in Kerala, India, as a government-recognized sacred pilgrimage.
For decades, Sri Lankan devotees have been travelling annually to Sabarimalai from November 1 to January 31 to worship at the renowned temple. This spiritual journey now attracts over 15,000 Sri Lankan devotees each year.
With this approval, the Sri Lankan government will formally recognize and facilitate the pilgrimage under prevailing conditions, ensuring the continuation of this long-standing religious tradition.
