A move is underway to revive Sri Lanka’s opposition through the formation of a broader political alliance to challenge the NPP government and address key national issues, the Daily Mirror reported.
The alliance, convened by former minister G.L. Peiris with former diplomat Milinda Moragoda playing a key role, has already brought together several parties including the SLFP faction, New Democratic Front, United Republican Front, SLMC, ACMC, and Democratic People’s Front. The UNP, led by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has also agreed to join.
However, SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa has declined participation, insisting he will contest the next Presidential Election as his party’s candidate — a decision that has sparked internal debate within the SJB.
The alliance, which excludes the SLPP, will function without a leader for now, with a common Presidential candidate to be announced closer to the 2029 election.
