The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has issued a letter to imams and preachers worldwide, urging them to dedicate their Friday sermon on September 5, 2025, to the topic of supplication. The letter, dated August 11, 2025, addresses the “mass killings, displacement, and starvation” faced by the people of Gaza.
The IUMS notes that despite assistance from many in the Muslim world, international cover-ups and the complicity of some regimes have hindered efforts to alleviate suffering. As a result, the letter states there is “no option but to turn to the heavens” through supplication.
The letter asks that after the Friday prayer on September 5, a specific time be set aside for the congregation to raise their hands in supplication while the imam recites a prayer for victory for the people of Gaza, and for their enemies to be defeated.
The letter is signed by the Secretary General, Dr. Ali Mohammed Mohammed Al-Sallabi, and the President, Prof. Dr. Ali Mohiuddin Al-Qaradaghi.
