Two Israeli nationals, both aged 26, who were arrested for allegedly assaulting a hotel owner and his wife in Arugam Bay, were released on bail by the Pottuvil Magistrate’s Court on Saturday (30).
Police said the incident occurred on Friday (29) when the two foreigners obstructed the road while the couple was travelling in their vehicle. A heated argument broke out, leading to a physical assault. The victims sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital for treatment.
The suspects were released on a surety bail of Rs. 1 million each and were ordered to surrender their passports to the court. The case is scheduled to be taken up again on Wednesday.
