Secretary of the University of Wolverhampton, Christine Fraser, in a letter to the office of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has confirmed that Mr. Wickremesinghe and his spouse were officially invited to attend the university’s 2023 event.
Fraser stated that the former President, his spouse, and Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the UK, Saroja Sirisena, were invited to the convocation of Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe and to a luncheon hosted on the occasion.
Earlier, United National Party (UNP) Chairman Vajira Abeywardena defended Mr. Wickremesinghe’s London visit, saying it was constitutional. He pointed out that under Article 33(h) of the Constitution, an Executive President is required to perform duties in accordance with law and international practices.
