Plans to establish a Sri Lanka–Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association in the Tenth Parliament under the National People’s Power Government have been postponed.
The initiative, spearheaded by Samagi Jana Balavegya MP Sujiwa Senasinghe, faced resistance after Party Leader and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa expressed his Objection.
The inaugural meeting of the proposed association had been scheduled for today (September 12) at 2.00 p.m. in Committee Room 04 of Parliament. Members interested in joining were earlier asked to submit applications to the Foreign Relations and Protocol Office of Parliament.
However, following the objections raised, the meeting has been deferred. A new date for the establishment of the friendship association has not yet been announced.
