The Supreme Court today ordered that the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, challenging his arrest and detention in 2021, be taken up for hearing on March 25, 2026.
The petition was called before a three-judge bench comprising Justices Shiran Gunaratne, Achala Wengappuli, and Priyantha Fernando, court correspondents reported.
Bathiudeen filed the petition seeking a declaration that his fundamental rights were violated by his arrest and detention under a detention order issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) during the administration of then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He maintains the arrest was carried out without any justifiable reason.
The bench directed that the matter be formally listed for hearing next year.
