Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have held wide-ranging discussions on strengthening bilateral ties, Modi said on social media on Friday.

“Our discussions covered a broad range of areas, including education, women’s empowerment, innovation, development cooperation and welfare of our fishermen,” Modi wrote on X.

He added that as “close neighbours, our cooperation holds immense importance for the prosperity of our two peoples as well as the shared region.”

Prime Minister Amarasuriya is currently on an official visit to India, following her recent trip to China earlier this week, as part of efforts to deepen Sri Lanka’s engagement with key regional partners.
