Special Transport Services Launched for Deepavali Festival Travelers

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has launched special transport services to facilitate travel for people heading to their hometowns for the Deepavali festival.

T. H. R. T. Chandrasiri, Deputy General Manager (Operations) of the SLTB, said that 75 additional buses were deployed today (17) from the Pettah Bodhiraja Mawatha Bus Terminal to destinations including Hatton, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Maskeliya, Nanu Oya, and Jaffna.

He added that 73 more buses will be operated from Colombo to these areas tomorrow to accommodate the festive travel demand. The SLTB also confirmed that the special bus service will operate 24 hours a day throughout the holiday period.

Chandrasiri further noted that instructions have been issued to the 12 Regional Officers of the SLTB to ensure adequate transport arrangements for passengers returning to Colombo from next Tuesday onwards.

Meanwhile, the National Transport Commission (NTC) announced that special bus services will also run from Makumbura and Bastian Mawatha in Pettah during the Deepavali period.

The Railway Department stated that train services will operate as scheduled today and tomorrow to support smooth travel for festival commuters.
