The Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, Lasantha Wickramasekara, popularly known as “Midigama Lasa,” has succumbed to his injuries after being shot by two unidentified gunmen earlier today.
The shooting occurred while Wickramasekara was seated in his office at the Pradeshiya Sabha. According to police, the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at him after entering the premises under the pretext of obtaining a letter signed by the chairman.
The critically injured chairman was rushed to the Matara General Hospital, where he died from gunshot wounds shortly after admission.
Police have launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the attack.
