Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is set to allocate nearly Rs. 1.5 billion each year for the development and promotion of school cricket, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage informed Parliament today (24).
Responding to a question raised on SLC’s contribution to nurturing young talent, the Minister said the investment will be channelled through the School Cricket Association. The funding will support key areas such as Upgrading infrastructure and facilities, Providing sports equipment to schools and Organizing competitive school-level tournaments
Minister Gamage further revealed that several playing fields across the country will be developed in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, aiming to strengthen the foundation of the sport and expand opportunities for budding cricketers.
He emphasized that the initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to enhancing youth sports and maintaining Sri Lanka’s strong legacy in international cricket.
