Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Chathuranga Abeysinghe, has issued a Letter of Demand (LOD) to Waruna Rajapaksha over what he alleges are defamatory remarks made on YouTube regarding a distillery licence.
According to a statement from the Deputy Minister’s Office, a series of false allegations targeting Abeysinghe were circulated on a YouTube channel operated by Rajapaksha. The LOD seeks compensation for reputational damage caused by the statements.
The dispute follows claims that Deputy Minister Abeysinghe and MP Najith Indika had met a businessman at the Kingsbury Hotel to discuss a distillery licence under dubious circumstances — accusations the Deputy Minister has rejected.
The statement noted that legal action would proceed if the demands outlined in the letter are not met.
