The High Commission of Pakistan in Colombo observed ‘Kashmir Black Day’ today (27) at High Commission Premises in Colombo, with participants including journalists, professionals, writers, members of the Pakistani community, and individuals supportive of the Kashmiri cause.
Documentaries and photo displays were presented at the event, depicting what the organisers described as human rights concerns in the Indian-administered region of Jammu and Kashmir. Messages from Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister were also read out.
Former Pakistani student Suriya Rizvi, addressing the gathering, spoke about what she alleged to be the prolonged denial of self-determination and mistreatment of civilians in the region since 1947.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Major General (Retd.) Fahim Ul Aziz, thanked attendees and reiterated Pakistan’s stated political and diplomatic support for the people of Kashmir. He paid tribute to what he called their “struggle” and reaffirmed Pakistan’s position on seeking what it views as their right to self-determination.
