Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Chief of National Intelligence (CNI), has stepped down from his post at the Ministry of Defence after reaching the retirement age of 60, the Ministry confirmed.
A decorated and longstanding officer of the Sri Lanka Army, Maj. Gen. Wanigasooriya has contributed significantly to strengthening the nation’s intelligence apparatus. During his tenure, he focused on enhancing inter-agency coordination and bolstering national security preparedness.
He assumed duties as the Chief of National Intelligence in January this year, bringing extensive operational and administrative experience into the role.
The Ministry of Defence expressed its gratitude for his dedicated service to the country and acknowledged his valuable leadership in safeguarding national security interests.
Maj. Gen. Wanigasooriya’s retirement marks the conclusion of a distinguished military career spanning decades of commitment and service to Sri Lanka.
