A fire has erupted on the fifth floor of an apartment complex located on Dabare Mawatha in Narahenpita, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
According to the Colombo Fire Service Department, several individuals who were trapped inside the building have already been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to bring the blaze under control.
A total of 13 fire engines have been deployed to the scene, along with two skylift vehicles being used to evacuate residents stranded on upper floors.
Officials reported that the main exits have become inaccessible due to the spreading flames, forcing rescue teams to rely on skylift equipment to safely reach those still inside.
No further details regarding casualties or the cause of the fire have been disclosed as emergency operations continue.
