The government is taking steps to establish a National Commission on Women in an effort to strengthen the protection and empowerment of women across the country, the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs announced.

A panel of seven members has already been appointed to serve on the Commission, under the authority granted by Act No. 34 of 2024 — the Women’s Empowerment Act.

The Commission is expected to provide a formal mechanism for women to submit complaints related to harassment, discrimination and injustices encountered in both public and private sector workplaces.

In addition, the body will offer guidance and support on legal matters concerning women, including ongoing cases before the judiciary, aiming to ensure better access to justice.

Officials say the initiative marks a significant step toward safeguarding women’s rights and advancing gender equality nationwide.
