The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, retired Major General Faheem Ul Aziz, has informed Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath that Pakistan reversed its decision regarding the 2026 T20 Cricket World Cup following three days of diplomatic discussions with Sri Lanka.

According to a statement issued by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the High Commissioner said Pakistan had initially decided not to participate in the 2026 T20 World Cup match against India. However, at Sri Lanka’s request, Pakistan agreed to set aside its differences and take part in the tournament, while also praising Sri Lanka’s role in mediating the issue.

These remarks were made during a meeting between High Commissioner Faheem Ul Aziz and Minister Vijitha Herath at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today (10 February), ahead of the conclusion of the High Commissioner’s tenure in Sri Lanka.

Minister Herath expressed appreciation for the High Commissioner’s swift engagement during the three days of diplomatic talks and telephone discussions.

Faheem Ul Aziz also commended Minister Herath’s continued diplomatic efforts in addressing several uncertainties surrounding the T20 World Cup.

Reflecting on his tenure, the High Commissioner described his service in Sri Lanka as both pleasant and successful, noting the strong support he received from the Foreign Minister and the Ministry. He further observed that Sri Lanka successfully conducted two free and exemplary elections in 2024 during his period of service.
