The Ministry of Education Sri Lanka has introduced a set of special guidelines to ensure the smooth continuation of school administration and teaching activities while managing energy consumption during the ongoing fuel shortage.
According to the Ministry, all schools have been instructed to operate only four days a week, with Wednesdays designated as holidays until further notice. On these days, principals are required to provide assignments, exercises and revision work to support students’ self-learning at home.
The Ministry also emphasized that, due to limited time available to complete the school syllabus, school hours must not be used for internal or external events and ceremonies.
In addition, schools have been advised to minimize fuel consumption when organizing monthly events, with fuel-intensive activities such as vehicle parades temporarily suspended.
Educational tours and previously planned student trips have also been postponed until further notice.
The Ministry stated that these measures aim to ensure uninterrupted learning during the current situation, adding that further instructions will be issued once conditions improve.
