The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka, Khalid Hamoud Nasser Aldasam Alkahtani, has strongly condemned recent Iranian attacks in the Gulf, warning of serious implications for regional stability and the global economy.

In an interview with Daily Mirror, the envoy described the strikes—reportedly involving ballistic missiles and drones targeting civilian infrastructure—as a “flagrant violation of state sovereignty” and a breach of international law.

He said the attacks pose a direct threat not only to regional security but also to global economic stability, citing disruptions to oil and gas supplies, rising energy prices, and risks to supply chains, particularly affecting developing economies.

The Ambassador also condemned attacks on commercial vessels and disruptions to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, warning of their impact on international trade, freedom of navigation, and global market stability.

Calling for an immediate halt to hostilities, he urged Iran to adhere to international law and respect regional security frameworks. He stressed the need for coordinated global action to prevent further escalation and safeguard critical maritime routes.

The envoy noted that Saudi Arabia continues to work closely with international partners, including within the OPEC+ framework, to stabilise energy markets and mitigate economic shocks.

Reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to energy security, he said Saudi Arabia aims to ensure stable global supply while also investing in diversified energy sources, including renewable technologies.

He concluded by calling on the international community to take a firm stance against continued hostilities, warning that prolonged conflict could have “dire consequences” for global peace, security, and economic stability.
