The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has temporarily called off its islandwide strike following an agreement by the Health Minister to hold discussions on Thursday.
The strike, which affected routine hospital operations across the country, was launched over issues concerning doctor transfers and post-intern appointments. Despite the disruption, emergency medical services continued uninterrupted throughout the trade union action.
According to the GMOA, the decision to suspend the strike was made after the Health Minister consented to engage in talks aimed at resolving the ongoing dispute. The association noted that any future trade union action would depend on the outcome of the scheduled meeting.
The strike had been extended several times in recent days, with the GMOA criticizing authorities for not adequately addressing concerns over the transfer process. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has maintained that the current appointment procedures should continue as planned.
