Serendib Flour Mills (Pvt.) Ltd has increased the price of wheat flour by Rs. 35 per kg.
The price hike will come into effect from today (11).
It has been pointed out that the price hike will take effect from midnight today.
Meanwhile, the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association recently stated that the bakery industry is facing a severe crisis due to gas shortages, fuel shortages, power cuts, wheat flour shortages, and rising raw material prices.
N.K Jayawardena, president of the association, said more than 1,000 bakeries had closed in the past few months, most of which were operating at less than 50 percent of daily production.
In this situation, people are expressing dissatisfaction with the sharp rise in the prices of essential commodities.
Wheat flour-based food items are also expected to increase.
