Schools in Sri Lanka’s urban areas that were closed due to a prevailing fuel crisis will be reopened on Tuesday June 28, Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 from 7.30am to 1.30pm only, with online classes to be held on Monday 27 and Friday July 01.

In these schools too, the principal has the power to decide on the number of days that the primary sections will be held ( Grades 1-5).

Teachers who are unable to attend due to transport issues on the given dates will not be considered as having taken personal leave, the communique said.

Sri Lanka’s ongoing forex shortage has resulted in mile long queues for petrol, diesel and kerosene. Queues have increased around the island due to fears over scarcity and price hikes. A fuel ship that was scheduled to arrive on Friday June 24 has been delayed indefinitely.
