Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that the QR code system introduced under the National Fuel Pass portal would be canceled in three to four months and the country would be able to provide fuel continuously under normal conditions.

Speaking on a TV program, Kanchana emphasized that the QR code was introduced as a temporary solution for fuel management.

He said that the cost of petrol wouldn’t go up. The local fuel price may increase by Rs. 10 or Rs. 15, depending on the international fuel price, but Minister Wijesekera said, “I do not know what will happen if a similar situation as in Ukraine arises or if the international fuel price rises at a higher rate.”

Following the removal of the QR code, the ministry claimed that as part of the reorganisation process, it had urged international suppliers to come to the nation.
