Everyone is familiar with the saying, ‘Water is the elixir of life’. From drinking to cleaning and other things, life cannot sustain without it.

In today’s world, water has become a commodity that can no longer be taken for granted. While many of us are privileged to have running water 24×7, there is a major chunk of the world that does not have access to any amount of water, let alone clean water.

Therefore, the global water crisis is one of the biggest issues in the world right now as climate change is making it worse.

World Water Day was created to accelerate change and solve the water and sanitation crisis.

  • Objectives of World Water Day

Additionally, the day is used to promote the responsible management of freshwater resources.

The major goal of the day is to motivate people to become more knowledgeable about global water challenges and to take appropriate action to change them.

  • History of World Water Day

On December 22, 1992, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution designating March 22 as World Water Day. When it was celebrated globally in 1993, this became a reality.
In 1993, the inaugural World Water Day was celebrated.

  • Significance of World Water Day

This day’s significance is straightforward overall. Our resources are nearly exhausted given the kind of environment we live in. Sustainability is a notion that everyone needs to understand because of the atrocities committed against the environment. It is still possible for people to take action and preserve a crucial resource.

  • Theme for World Water Day 2023

Every year, a particular freshwater topic is highlighted as part of World Water Day. The subject of COVID-19 in 2021, the pandemic year, was “Valuing Water.” The campaign asked the public: “How is water important to your home and family life, your livelihood, your cultural practices, your wellbeing, and your local environment?” in addition to addressing the pricing issue.

Groundwater, Making the Invisible Visible was the focus of the year 2022. The campaign centered on three primary issues relating to groundwater: the invisible component in food, a resource without boundaries, and a limited supply.

This year’s theme, “Accelerating the change to solve the water and sanitation crisis,” emphasizes the importance of acting quickly to resolve the world’s water issue.
