According to a Sri Lanka Railways spokeswoman, it is possible to finish today repairing the severely damaged railroad tracks that were caused by the incident in Kantale.
The train split in two in Gal Oya, with one portion leaving for Batticaloa and the other for Trincomalee. The train had left the Colombo Fort railway station yesterday morning (April 7).
At least 16 people were hurt when the second carriage of the Trincomalee-bound train, which had four coaches, crashed after it was unclasped close to the Agbopura railway station.
Five males, including the train guard and his deputy, nine women, and two children were among the injured. They were received care at the Kantale Hospital.
