Faulty medicine leaves 10 with impaired eyesight in Sri Lanka

Ten patients who underwent surgery at the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital have reported complete loss of eyesight or weakness in sight, it was reported.

The Director of the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital Dr. Mahendra Seneviratne stated that the eyesight of the patients had been affected post-surgery due to the presence of germs in a medicine imported from India.

According to Ada Derana, Dr. Mahendra Seneviratne revealed that patients who underwent surgery after April 05 had either lost their eyesight or had weakened sight.

He further stated that those who had completely lost their eyesight due to the medication given following surgery have been readmitted to the hospital.

According to Dr. Mahendra Seneviratne, those patients are receiving the required care and are steadily recovering.

The proper state authorities have been contacted, according to the director of the Nuwara Eliya General, and an inquiry is currently being conducted.

The Ministry of Health has also informed the business that imported the incorrect drug in this regard, Dr. Mahendra Seneviratne.
