The commemoration of events connected to the “May 09” people’s protest is prohibited by a restraining order in 2022.

The Fort Magistrate’s Court imposed the restraining order today in response to a Colpetty Police request.

The President’s House, Presidential Secretariat, Finance Ministry, and Temple Trees in Colombo are all off-limits to demonstrators, according the directive.

Today commemorates one year when nationwide unrest first appeared in Sri Lanka on May 9, 2022.

At the Galle Face Green in Colombo, supporters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) assaulted anti-government demonstrators, sparking the disturbance.
