Unit 3 of the Norochcholai Power Plant will be shut down for 100 days starting on June 13 in order to complete planned significant overhaul maintenance, according to Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara.
The minister promised that additional thermal power plants will be used to control electricity generation so that there won’t be any power outages.
On Twitter, Minister Wijesekara also noted that the 30th shipment of coal, which is now unloading at Norochcholai, will satisfy the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) entire coal need for this season.
Additionally, he emphasized that there won’t be any power outages or blackouts, contrary to prior predictions made by CEB unions and media reports on coal shortages.
